-Human Rights Nonprofit to participate in Boston University PRLab’s PRoBono event

BOSTON, USA- Universal Human Rights International (UHRI), an organization devoted to raising awareness of the plight of Liberian refugee mothers and their American born children, has announced it will work with Boston University’s PRLab at its annual PRoBono event, a UHRI press statement said on Tuesday.

This award-winning overnight “PR-a-thon” enables student volunteers to collaborate, conceptualize, and craft public relations deliverables and strategic communications for nonprofit organizations.

“The situations with Liberian refugees in The United States of America is a crisis of massive proportion and having the help of Boston University’s brightest communication students is critical to addressing the humanitarian and human rights issues that affect so many,” said Torli Krua, Founder of UHRI and Human Rights Activist.

“We are so excited to be one of just a handful of organizations that have been chosen to be represented by PRoBono,” Rev. Krua said.

Boston University’s PRLab, the longest-running student-led PR agency in the country, hosts PRoBono annually. During the 15-hour event, which takes place November 15-16, students from PRLab, as well as other students with a passion for communications and philanthropy, will work on a scope of work provided by UHRI. The participating students will help UHRI launch social media platforms, conduct media outreach to key audiences, and create and produce appeal letters to business leaders to help.

“Each year, hundreds of students gather to donate their time, skills, and passion to deserving nonprofit organizations,” said Justin Joseph, a professor of public relations at Boston University, and co-faculty advisor of PRLab. “Because of its valuable mission, UHRI was selected from a variety of organizations that applied for the opportunity. The students, who represent the best and brightest in communication education, are excited to play an integral part in helping victims and families of the Liberian refugee crisis.”

PRoBono’s student volunteers will help UHRI expand its PR and marketing content portfolio by creating original content for the organization’s social media channels, drafting news releases, conducting media outreach to key audiences, and drafting appeal letters. At the end of the 15-hour period, students assigned to work with UHRI will present their content to the organization.

“I call on other universities worldwide to emulate the good example of students at Boston University. Wars equally affect every member of society. And by helping to equip non-profits in their fight for justice, Boston University students are helping to create a safe world of security, and equal opportunities for all.” Krua said. Through the PRoBono output, UHRI will be able to confidently represent its mission — “Today’s refugees…Tomorrow’s world leaders” — globally.
