A pro education advocacy organization says it is totally opposed to ongoing plans by government to outsource the management of public schools to the Bridge International Academy (BIA).

The Consortium of Defenders of Education says the move is a breach of “regional and international protocols on the provision of affordable, quality education which Liberia is signatory to”.

“This also is counterproductive to ongoing conversations on the country’s national education curriculum and policy”, NTAL North-Central Region Vice President James Millar said Wednesday at their headquarters in Monrovia.

The consortium comprises of key stakeholders in the education sector including the Coalition for Accountability and Transformation in Education, NTAL, the National Christian Council of Liberia, The Education of Girls Initiatives, the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) Council, the Liberia National Student Union (LINSU), among others.

Millar said added that should government’s plans sail through, it would mean putting in charge of the BIA, some 250 public schools, 100,000 students and 3,000 teachers, stressing, “this is not in the interest of the Liberian people”.
