CDC stalwarts fear “adversaries” in key posts would seek Weah gov’t “downfall”

It’s becoming increasingly evident that discontent is rising within the ranks of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) regarding allocation of jobs in various government posts.

Ever since President Weah made the first set of appointments on the evening of his inauguration on January 22, retaining a number of former Ellen Johnson Sirleaf officials and bringing in some people outside the ranks of the CDC, there have been uneasiness in the tripartite coalition.

The clearest sign of this came over the weekend from a post by a CDC executive and Representative of Montserrado County, Acarous Gray who wrote on his Facebook page of infiltrators bent on seeking the downfall of the George Weah government.

“It’s time that party loyalists be placed in every positions of trust in government. Our adversaries are plotting to seek our downfall. No retreat, No surrender,” Rep Gray said on his Facebook page at the weekend.

Attempts by this news outlet to get the CDC lawmaker to shed light on his claim of a plot “to seek our downfall” was unsuccessful.

Gray is yet to respond to an electronic message sent to him since Saturday to explain what really prompted his latest statement, which one of the individuals they have discovered want to see the CDC government fail.

Other issues we would have hoped the Montserrado County lawmaker would have commented on are: How serious are the unnamed plotters? And whether Rep Gray’s Facebook post reflects the general position of the CDC leadership?

Before Gray’s post, he and other top CDC executives had gone all out to put cold water on the growing uneasiness amongst the rank and file of the party. Of course it is over concerns about jobs and what they see as “outsiders” being rewarded after struggling 12 years in opposition.

“Be Patient, The Country Giant (George Manneh Weah now President) Knows Your Time!” was the title of a Facebook post written on the page of Mulbah Morlu, CDC Vice Chairman for Operations less than two weeks ago.

“CDCians, I would encourage you to continue to be tolerant, patient & mindful of our obligation to support the President’s ‘Pro-poor’ agenda that transforms the standard of living for our people. This is why we fought for change, to liberate the enslaved and deliver basic needs; do not jeopardize your sacrificial investment by being emotional.

To everything there’s an appointed time, wait for your APPOINTED hour, it’s coming,” Morlu added in his Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Morlu at the weekend was made acting Chairman of the CDC by the party’s Executive Committed, after the current Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Atty Nathaniel McGill resigned as Chairman.
