The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), the umbrella youth and student organization in the country has attributed the poor state of the nation to “bunch of deceitful people in leadership”.
Liberia is one of the poorest countries in the world, and its economy is extremely underdeveloped. As a low-income country, this West African nation relies heavily on foreign assistance.
Addressing Liberian students at the Yatta Memorial Institute in Johnsonville-Montserrado County, FLY President Amos Williams did not mention names but argued that Liberia is polarized with dishonest leaders based on lack of proper training during early childhood on how to say the truth.
“We have a bunch of leaders who are not knowledgeable about the doctrine of truth-telling and are presiding over us (Liberians),” Mr. William added.
This, he noted has greatly impeded the country’s development and urged parents to ensure that the upbringing of their children is characterized by truth-telling.
Mr. Williams believes cultivating the culture of truth-telling is the surest way to foster the development of the country and its people.
“When we do this, we will be building a Liberia that is truthful -Let’s fight to build the country on trust and there can only be trust when we are truthful,” Mr. Williams lamented.
He furthered that breeding kids on how to tell the truth does not only help in the early development of the children but also promotes honesty in society.
The FLY President however, pledged to provide thirty thousand Liberian Dollars to support the effective running of the school and further vowed to sponsor three students for next academic year.
