Feeder roads boost in Liberia’s Grand Gedeh County

The lack of and poor condition of feeder roads in Liberia remains a daunting challenge for the country’s agricultural sector.

The Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Public works Ministry over the weekend broke grounds for 32 kilometer rural feeder road in Zleh Town, Gbawon statutory District in the southeastern Grand Gedeh County.

Grand Gedeh is more than 453 kilometers from the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

The acting project coordinator of Small Holder Agriculture Productivity Enhancement and Commercialization, (SAPEC) of the MOA Harry Wonyene said, the Zleh Town to Juluzon road rehabilitation is aimed at enhancing farmers’ capacity to take their produce to the market on good road.

He said farm to market road remains a challenge to farmers in the country, something he described as unfortunate situation.

Peter Solo, Grand Gedeh County Superintendent expressed gratitude to the authorities of both the  Agriculture and Public Works Ministries for the initiative undertaken.

Solo urged citizens of the district to give their full cooperation to workers of the company, while executing their duty

He said the rehabilitation of the Zleh town-Juluzon road is timely because the citizens over the years have been yielding for such project.

The Grand Gedeh County superintendent used the occasion to called on the management of MDMC to employ bulk of the citizens of Gbarzon District to create jobs for the jobless

Meanwhile, the chief executive officer of MDMC John Youboty promised to work with the people Gbarzon and expressed gratitude to Ministry of Agriculture for awarding him such contract.

The Zleh Town-Juluzon feeder road rehabilitation is being initiated by Small Holder Agriculture Productivity Enhancement and Commercialization, (SAPEC) of the Agriculture Ministry.

SAPEC have been working with famers in Gbarzon district to improve their livelihood for the past two years.
