Financial Scandal At Liberia’s Second Port In Buchanan

BUCHANAN, Liberia- A financial scandal is brewing at the Port of Buchanan, Liberia’s second largest port, in Grand Bassa County, the management of the National Port Authority (NPA) has revealed.

The NPA management has indefinitely suspended two of its officials without pay for alleged financial impropriety, a press release says.

Those suspended with immediate effect and ordered to the investigation are Mr. Charles D. Gull, Manager of Buchanan Port and Mr, Amara Kamara, Chief Statistician, Out -Station Ports.

Madam Oretha Thelma Myers, Manager Of Operation, Port of Buchanan is expected to take over as acting Port Manager.

In the release signed by the spokesperson for the National Port Authority, Malcolm W. Scott, the defensive action of management was necessary and are in straight abidance against any act of its staff found punishable for unscrupulous deeds.

The release further disclosed that the suspected two employees will remain suspended until the outcome of the ongoing investigation to which they have been subjected.

However, this paper has gathered from reliable sources that the two accused staffers were arrested, detained and placed under intense investigation for reportedly stealing about USD$ 500- thousand. According to our source who begged not to be named, the funding was intended for workers and other issues.

Meanwhile, the NPA management has assured the public that they will release the findings from the investigation including their further actions.
