For hate speech: Justice Forum complains Deputy Min Fahngon to Amnesty International

(Last Updated On: )

Amidst the escalation of hate speech and threats on the Social Media, a UK-based group, Justice Forum Liberia has raised concern about the involvement of the Deputy Chief Spokesman of the CDC government in the trading of hate speech via the Social Media.

In a letter dated February 1, 2019 and addressed to Amnesty International, the Executive Director of the group, Journalist Max Kpakio said:

“Few days ago we came across a screenshots of a communication between a serving government official in the presence of Mr Eugene L Fahngon and one William on Facebook in which they expressed and issued out death threats against all advocates and members of the opposition block both in Liberia and out of Liberia. When we came across this, we got concern taking into consideration the 14 years madness that took place in Liberia in which an estimated 250,000 people including children and pregnant women died, we tried reaching out to Minister Fahngon and gave him 72 hours to respond to said communication.”

In reply to the poster of the hate speech and death threat, Mr. William W. Slim-King Broh, the sitting Liberian Deputy Minister said, “I said the same thing”.

The same Mr. Bro, who is said to be a loyalist of the ruling CDC, has also listed a number of Liberian politicians and Journalists he branded as “enemies” of the state including Frontpage Africa newspaper’s Managing Editor Rodney Sieh and Star FM’s talk show host, T-max Jlateh.

Meanwhile, the Justice Forum Liberia is meanwhile calling on Amnesty International to get in touch with the CDC government of President George Weah to address this “grave” situation.

“We have decided to reach out to you and seek your help so you can reach out to the administration of President George M. Weah and seek a redress in this matter to avoid them putting their plans into action,” the UK-based Liberian group added.
