GBARNGA, Liberia -The National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL) Bong County branch has threatened to go-slow due to what they called huge reduction of public school teachers’ salaries across the Country.

Teachers in the counties have been complaining that their salaries have been reduced by the government of Liberia through the so-called salary harmonization exercise.

Speaking with www.newspublictrust.com in the central Liberian city of Gbarnga recently, NTAL President Mr. Hanson Dolo said “Teachers of this County will abandon their various classes because cutting our salaries in my mind is unfair and belated”.

“While will the government cut our salaries during this very difficult when we are not being for the just benefits of our labors, our leaders will need to rethink because we as teachers are suffering,” Mr. Dolo added

They have been told by the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Education MoE to reopen their various Bank Accounts (USD and LRD) something he said they don’t have finance to do, he said.

Mr. Hanson Dolo further described the acts of reducing Teachers salaries as wickets and unpatriotic, adding “what they were to do I think is by increasing what we make at the end of every months but not reducing the little amounts we make”.

The NTAL Bong County boss is meanwhile calling on the government of President Dr. George Manneh Weah intervene into the situation.

Mr. President you will need to do something very urgently because are being underpaid for the services we are providing to this Country.

“If the government of President George Weah wants to improve Liberia Educational sector cutting our salaries will not solve the problems, our President you need to quickly address these concerns of the Liberian’s Teacher all across the country,” Mr. Dolo stated.

At the same time, the NTAL official encouraging teachers of Bong County to abide by the mandate from NTAL Bong County chapter if they will indeed love the future generations of Liberia.

He said Teachers that will not abide by this mandate will not go unpunished.
