Former Ruling UP Puts Joe Boakai Forward For CPP Standard-Bearership

The Chairperson of the Collaborating Political Parties has declared the standard bearer of the former ruling Unity Party (UP) as the only candidate qualified thus far for the consensus selection of the ticket of the CPP in the 2023 presidential elections.

This declaration was made in Monrovia over the weekend, less 24 hours after the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Cummings walked out of a CPP leadership meeting, accusing the other party leaders of violating their Framework Agreement.

Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, who is also the Chairperson of the Liberty Party, said Ambassador Joseph Boakai has been qualified after undergoing what she described as the legal process through the constitution of the Unity Party.

Senator Lawrence spoke at the ceremony marking the endorsement of Ambassador Joseph Boakai as standard bearer by the Unity Party in Congo Town during the weekend.

She cautioned the other political parties wishing to field candidate for the consensus process to double up, as there is limited time to do so.

In remarks, former Vice President, Joseph Boakai called on all Liberians to join the CPP in order to redeem Liberia from what he called, the prevailing situation.

According to him, Liberians have become a laughing stock  among the comity of nations and there is a need to restore the country’s  prestige and moral in the international community.

He thanked the members of the national executive committee of the UP for reposing the confidence to submit his name for  the consensus aimed at selecting ticket of the CPP

Meanwhile, the political leader of the All Liberian Party (ALP) is urging Liberians to rally around the Collaborating Political Parties in order to bring the needed change in the country.

Benoni Urey added that the CPP will need all hands on deck by citizens putting in their time and bringing their resources so as to ensure that the dream for the better of the future generation is realized.

Speaking when Joseph Boakai was chosen as standard bearer by the Unity Party, Mr. Urey re-affirmed the ALP’s commitment to vote as a block at the election for the ticket of the CPP.

In remarks, the Senator-elect of the Lofa County, Brownie Samukai disclosed that the election for a new president of Liberia has begun.

According to him, citizens should begin vigorous efforts by moving from one community to another, because “the 2023 presidential election is just the formality based on the legal requirement by the constitution.”

During the program, the leader of the Alternative National Congress, Alexander Cummings and his supporters were conspicuously absence from the program.

According to Mr. Cummings, the ANC couldn’t form part of the program when other leaders of the political parties are violating the Framework document of the CPP

Political observers are of the opinion that wrangling within the CPP has the propensity to affect the chances of the collaboration if the differences among the leaders

The program was graced by the CPP legislative caucus, supporters of the Liberty Party, the All Liberian Party and the Unity Party, among many others.
