The National Water Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) Commission of Liberia has closed down three business houses for poor sanitary conditions, but the businesses are yet to publically react to the move.
The affected businesses include Ducor Mineral Water Company in Sinkor, Omega Spring and the Ghana Chop Bar on the 72nd boulevard in Monrovia’s Paynesville suburb.
The action followed a tour of various businesses by the inspectorate team aimed at ensuring safety and good sanitary conditions.
Ducor Water Company and Ghana Chop Bar are two popular businesses which services and products are patronized by thousands of citizens.
The exercise was carried out by the head of inspection Stanley Wright and the WASH Commission’s Program Manager Prince Kreplah.
Head of inspection Wright said their action was simply an enforcement of the law and should not be construed as a witch hunt.
“We intend to go throughout the length and breadth of Liberia,” he pointed out.
For his part, Program Manager Kreplah lamented that some of the business houses visited showed serious health threats.

Mr. Kreplah said businesses that have been ordered closed would be allowed to reopen only if they improve their conditions and ensure compliance with set guidelines.
