Gov’t COVID-19 Food Stimulus Package Finally Reaches People In Maryland County

HARPER, Liberia- At long last, the COVID-19 food stimulus package promised by the Liberian government has reached targeted beneficiaries in the South Eastern Maryland County.

It has come after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, starting in Harper district on the 4th January 2021 with the food basket comprising rice, beans and oil. And the food aid is intended for what officials say are “vulnerable” people.

The distribution of the Corona Virus stimulus package in Maryland County has been supervised by Caritas Cape Palmas in Harper City.

Speaking to Journalists, the Program Officer of Caritas Cape Palmas, Mr. Waidi Bobo said the government of Liberia decided to distribute food items to some citizens in Maryland County due to the economic situation in Liberia caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Mr: Bobo told reporters that every qualify household in the County received  2 bags of 25 kg rice, 1 gallon of oil, and 10 kilo of beans. He also mentioned that 25,952 households are being selected to benefit in the four districts of Maryland County namely Harper district, Pleebo Sodoken district, Karluway district and Barrobo district.

Stressing “I am grateful to God for this opportunity given the Caritas Cape Palmas to controlled the distribution process of the COVID-19 stimulus package in the Southeast part of the Country, I will like to inform those who do not receive food items in the County that, “this is not a pick and choose but it is based on the questions you answer during the recruitment.”

Mr. Bobo further said that Caritas Cape Palmas will fairly distribute the food items in Maryland County to those who are supposed to receive.

In interviews, many recipients, who received the food package, lauded the effort of the Liberian government and Partners for the Kind gesture.

“We are extremely happy for the support given us from the National Government of Liberia, let God protection lead the government most specially to his Excellency Dr. George Menneh weah who through his good will we are receiving food items in this difficult time,” one of the beneficiaries joyfully said.

One of the recipients of the food aid in Harper City Maryland County Nyemade Davis extended her sincere thanks and appreciation to President Weah for the fulfillment of his promise made at the start of the pandemic in 2020..

“Our good President let God bless you and all those working with you in this government as we entered this year 2021. Miss,” Mr: Davis explained.
