GBARNGA, Liberia- In an efforts to support national government to create an enabling environment for school age children in the rural Liberia, the ground has been broken in Nyakalai town in Kporyorquelleh clan, Jorquelleh district #3 for the construction of a modern elementary school in Bong County.
When constructed, the school will serve as a delivery hub for more than three hundred school-going kids form the Town and five other surrounding villages in the area.
Since the establishment of the town in the late 60’s, there has not been a school or a single classroom for kids in the Town, a situation that the citizens in the area described as unbearable.
The Nyakalai elementary school project is being fully supported by a son of the community and a former Bong County Senatorial Candidate, J. Mike Kollie.
Speaking to this Reporter at the ground breaking, the daughter of Mr. Kollie and the project manager of the school project, Ms. Nyamah A. Kollie said her dad being a lover of development sees it important to help improve the livelihood of his fellow Bongese irrespective of his private and poor health condition.
Nyamah says the project will serve as an eye-opener for individuals who want to see a transformed Liberia through education empowerment.
According to her, there is no single person aiding her father to undertake the project instead it is being single handedly done from his meager earnings from the United States.
Additionally, Madam Kollie is lauding the efforts of the Town citizens for their cooperation in meeting the benchmark period of the school project.
Meanwhile, she is calling on lawmakers and good will individuals of the County to direct some of their little earning to developmental projects in the County.
It is also reported that Mr. Kollie single handedly built the road from the Kpatawee waterfall route to Nyakalai Town with the help of his citizens despite of the promises made by Hon. Edward W. Karfiah who legislatively controls the region at Capitol Hill.
Speaking earlier, the chief of the town Mulbah Decee and the conglomeration of speakers lavished praises on Hon. Kollie and his immediate family for the initiative.
They asked God to deliver Kollie from his sick bed in the USA to do more for his people.
Presently, “we do not have Clinic in this Town something that is unbearable for us,” they lamented.
The citizens particularly, thanked Nyamah Kollie for the supervisory role she continues to play in ensuring that they are successful in completing the school project.
Although the actual cost of the project was not disclosed by the manager, an insider put the estimated cost of the project at US$250,000 with a lot of compartment associated to the School.
