The Ministry of Labor has assured the National Commission on Disabilities of employment of 25 disabled persons with college degrees in the private sector throughout the country.
Labor Minister, Charles Gibson expressed happiness to hear that over 60 people living with disabilities have recently acquired college degrees in various academic areas.
Minister Gibson spoke at the opening of a one-day outreach organized by the National Commission on Disabilities held in collaboration with the United Nations Volunteers and the United Nations Development Program in Congo Town
He disclosed that the Labor Ministry has entered agreement with the Liberia Chambers of Commence to provide 500 jobs and 25 of which will be given people with disabilities.
Minister Gibson added that his ministry in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) purposely to provide skills training for disadvantaged youths in Liberia.
According to Minister Gibson, and the Justice Minister, Cllr. Musa Dean have also secured employment for ten people with disabilities in the private sector.
In remarks, the President of the National Union of Organizations of the Disabled (NUOD), Naomi Harris welcomed the job hunt for people with disabilities by the National Commission on Disabilities.
She also encouraged the United Nations Volunteer and the United Nations Development Program to consider recruiting qualified people living with disabilities in some of their programs.
Mrs. Harris commended the National Commission on Disabilities for the initiatives aimed at seeking employment for people living with disabilities.
For her part, the Deputy Gender Minister for Protection, Children & Social Welfare, Lydia Sherman assured the National Commission on Disabilities of the ministry’s fullest cooperation in meeting the objectives of the entity
The one-day deliberation brought representatives of various organizations from various parts of the country.
