The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) says it remains committed to the good tenants of democracy and is calling on the CDC government to adhere to the noble democratic principles that will promote peace, tranquility and stability.

LCC President, Bishop Kortu Brown, said there are inconclusive reports of frequent mysterious disappearances and ritualistic killings, with families contending for proper redress of grievances.

Bishop Brown made the call when he delivered the Easter Message of the LCC in Brewersville, outside Monrovia over the weekend.

The LCC President cautioned officials of government to step to the plate of true Christian representation and promote the tenant of democracy with accountability, love for the country, peace and good neighborliness.

The Liberia Council of Churches added that it is cognizance of the renewed pledge of the government that the price of rice will not increase  under this administration, because it is prepared to subsidize the commodity.

According to him, Liberia has endured hurtful April experiences and the reflection of these events, April 12 and 14 are significant to the nation’s history  and the mindset to repent , ask for forgiveness and change the social and political mindset and find a solution of healing and reconciliation which has kept Liberians as a state not making progress when other nations are far ahead .

“The Liberia Council of Churches said it is in prayer with the larger Christian community and people of other faith for the good of Liberia and the welfare of its people,” he said; adding: “there are so many challenges that befall us as a nation. As we strive to make a step forward, the evil mindset draws us two steps backward.”

“What we need now is genuine repentance and reconciliation as a people because our narratives have alluded that some of the causes of the civil war that killed over 250,000 people, assassination of past presidents, murdering of innocent persons in cold blood were based on marginalization, ethnicity, tribalism, hatred and poor democratic governance.”

“Easter should remind us that are answerable to our people not only when we need them, but even they need us.”

The council expressed concern about the prevailing political trend with political parties on the issue of the electoral candidates’ legitimacy and the role of the National Elections Commission is playing to promote peace and stability.

The Council of Churches said the statements from the various actors is not Easter friendly and therefore the LCC is calling on all parties of the Collaborating Political Parties to eschew divisive politics and remain calm and work towards unity, which builds every nation and democracy.

LCC called on the National Elections Commission (NEC) to be very meticulous in the adjudication of disputes and ensure that Liberia as the common denominator be protected and not personal interest.
