The Liberia National Police has launched investigations into videos containing a barrage of information that border on national security invoking terrorists group operations in the country, the LNP Spokesman has said.

Both the Liberian government and the International Community last weekend condemned the video appearing on the Social Media about an alleged ploy by the Liberian government to bring in people to instigate violence in the run up to the 2023 presidential and legislative elections

The information posted linked the international community to raising the allegation, something that prompted the Justice Ministry to urge that international partners say where they stand by condemning the video post.

In a statement, the Justice Ministry “warned that engaging in false news with a clear intent to incite and create agitation in the general population is against the law; and therefore anyone found fermenting or sponsoring activities intended to create chaos could face the full weight of the law.”

The International Community in Liberia categorically stated, “that the statements contained in the piece have no connection with the International Community in Liberia nor are we aware of any basis for any allegation contained in this piece.”

“We strongly condemn any attempt to link the International Community with these allegations which could threaten and undermine national security. We stress that those responsible must be held accountable,” the International Community including the United Nations, European Union, United States, ECOWAS said.

On Monday, September 20, 2022, the Police expressed appreciation for the timely response of the International Community through the European Union to one of the videos which poses serious threat to national security.

The Liberia National Police and the National Security Agency says it has already begun its joint investigation in ensuring that those responsible for said videos are made to face the full weight of the law.

“While said investigation is ongoing, the public can be assured that the Liberia National Police and other Joint Security Institutions will leave no stone unturned in jealously protecting the peace and stability of the state,” the Police said.

“Liberia, as a post conflict nation has experienced a lot of devastation and is never prepared to resort to its ugly days of war. As such, every citizen is urged to support peace and condemn anything that seeks to return our country to its ugly past,”
