VOINJAMA, Liberia— The Voinjama City Corporation (VCC), in partnership with Radio Kintoma 101.1 FM, is expected to officially launch a new pilot initiative aimed at supporting students’ education while promoting community sanitation across Voinjama City.
The project, coded “VCC Education for Community Sanitation Project,” is designed to provide educational support to an initial group of 20 selected students enrolled in universities and high schools in Voinjama.
The Voinjama City lord mayor, Hon. Pendorah C.W. Zaizay disclosed that under the initiative, the selected students will have their approved school fees paid through the project, while in return, they will participate in organized community sanitation activities under the coordination of the Voinjama City Corporation.
‘This initiative seeks to create a practical connection between education and community service, allowing young people to receive educational assistance while contributing directly to efforts to keep Voinjama clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly’, Mayor Zaizay disclosed.
According to her, participating students will be expected to take part in activities such as street and public-area cleaning, waste collection, drainage cleaning, and other sanitation-related activities identified by the Voinjama City Corporation.
The partnership between VCC and Radio Kintoma is also expected to play an important role in mobilizing public support, creating awareness, and encouraging residents to take greater responsibility for the cleanliness of their communities.
She noted that the project is expected to prioritize students who demonstrate a genuine need for educational assistance and a willingness to contribute to community development through regular sanitation work.
Also speaking, Radio Kintoma Acting Manager Tokpa Tarnue indicated that the project could serve as a model for addressing two important challenges facing young people and communities — access to education and proper sanitation.
Manager Tarnue indicated that the initiative is also expected to promote discipline, civic responsibility, volunteerism, and leadership among participating students, while strengthening the relationship between young people and local authorities.
‘If this is successfully implemented, it is our hope the VCC Education for Community Sanitation Project can be expanded in the future to benefit more students and communities across Voinjama’ Manager Tarnue said.
The initiative comes at a time when communities across Liberia continue to emphasize the importance of youth participation in local development and maintaining clean and healthy environments.
