Liberian Woman Demands Justice For ‘Illegal’ Police Detention, But…

In recent times, there have been daily reports of illegal arrest and detention of individuals, with the latest being a Liberian woman who is demanding justice, but the Spokesman of the Liberia National Police (LNP) says he has no knowledge of the matter.   

Madam Monica King, who was allegedly detained for two days at the Headquarters at the Liberia National Police, is appealing to government and other human rights to help her seek justice by stating reason(s) why she was arrested.

“I want know  really the reason I was arrested and detained for two days at the LNP headquarter in Central Monrovia, why the police arrested me, who sent them and for what, I done know,’’ Madam King said.

Madam  King narrated that she was on last week Wednesday allegedly arrested by a pickup filled of police and taken to the air field police deport later  was  transferred to the National Police headquarters where she spend two days behind bar.

According to Madam King, reason for her arrest has not been disclosed but continues to receive calls from unknown individuals allegedly threatening her life.

She explained that at the national police HQ, she was taken to R-1 office who orders that she should be place behind bars without any justifiable reason.

“When I go to the Office of R-1, they did not ask me for statement but rather choose to place me behind bar without any justifiable reason.

Speaking this week to Reporter in Monrovia, Madam King  called on other justice groups, human rights Institution to intervene in seeking justice as her life is been under serious threats.

According to her, since her release after two day behind bars, she has been receiving calls from unknown individuals threating her life, something she noted has created serious for her life.

When contacted, R-1 who is believed to be the Chief Investigator noted that the allegation is false and misleading.

“The information in fact is a misrepresentation of who I am as an officer but all I can say to you is that if you have any problem, please contact Moses Carter who is the Police Spokesperson.’’

For his part, Police Spokesman Moses Carter said he has no knowledge of the matter. But he asked Monica to visit the police headquarters with official complaint.
