Lagos-Liberia’s inspirational and awards-winning Gospel musician, Kanvee Adams has won two distinct international awards at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
A press release from the Liberian Embassy in Nigeria says Kanvee won two out of the three categories in which she was nominated at a colourful event held late Saturday evening, November 23, 2019 at the luxurious Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria.
At the event, she saw off competitions from some top notch African musicians including the likes of Nigeria’s Teni, South Africa’s Kelly Khumalo, Kenya’s Olivia Ambani among others to be awarded the “Songwriter of The Year In Africa” and the “Best Female Ariste, Duo or Group in African Inspirational Music” respectively.
Kanvee’s newly released songs, ‘Daily Prayers’ and ‘Mama (Reloaded)’ won her two respective categories, the release adds.
The release recalls that the Liberian Gospel musical diva was nominated in three different categories for this year’s AFRIMA’s 6th edition, the other being ‘Best Female Artiste in Western Africa’, won by Nigeria’s superstar Tiwa Savage.
Established by the International Committee AFRIMA, in collaboration with the African Union (AU) to reward and celebrate musical works, talents and creativity around the African continent while promoting the African cultural heritage, The AFRIMA is held annually in selected African cities. Its pioneer Awards show was held in 2014, the release adds.
Receiving the award, Kanvee exclaimed: “I thank everyone of you for supporting me through your votes, prayers and best wishes. We did it!! Thanks to the strong man behind me, Mr. Emmanuel Koko Adams, for the love and tireless support. Thanks to High Chief Raymond Dokpesi who saw a great gem in and availed himself to be used to raise me up. Thanks to my Liberian-Nigerian people for making me proud. This is your victory. God bless you and bless Africa.”
Meanwhile, Liberia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Professor Al-Hassan Conteh has congratulated Kanvee Adams on her double-award AFRIMA success.
The release quotes Ambassador Conteh as saying: “Congratulations to Kanvee for winning this double AFRIMA award for 2019. This is a proud moment for her and her dear country, Liberia. Many hearty thanks to all supporters who rallied behind her to make her dream a reality: the President of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, the founder of DAAR Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi and the hard-working staff of DAAR, Chief Cliff Nzeruem of Hotel Ibis Royale, the Liberian Community in Nigeria, and the many Liberians, Nigerians, and other loving voters in Liberia, the rest of Africa and the Disapora.”
The Liberian Envoy added that Kanvee’s victory shows that with hard work, unity, perseverance, and faith in the Almighty God, all things are possible.
Another double winner at the event include Nigeria’s Burna Boy whose ‘African Giant’ won the ‘Album of the Year’ and the ‘Best Male Artiste in Western Africa’ for his song “Ye”.
Other winners included Wizkid’s song whose song ‘Fever’ featuring Tiwa Savage, won ‘The Song of the Year’.
Tiwa Savage won the ‘Best Female Artiste in Western Africa’ for her song “One”; while her compatriots Joeboy and DJ Spinall walked away with the ‘Best African Duo or Group in African Pop’ for his song “Baby” and the ‘African DJ of the Year’ awards respectively.
Nigeria’s Innocent 2Baba Idibia scoped the ‘Special Recognition Award and Best Artiste Duo or Group in African Contemporary’, award while Congo’s Awilo Longomba received the ‘Special Recognition’ award.
The winners continued with Stonebwoy (Ghana) ‘Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Reggae, Ragga or Dancehall’, Nadia Nakai (South Africa) ‘Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa and Best African Rapper/Lyricist’, and Rash Band (Kenya), ‘Best Artiste in Duo or Group in African Rock’.
The list of winners continues Yann’Sine (Morocco) ‘Best Male Artist in Northern Africa’, Nasty C (South Africa)‘Best Male Artist in Southern Africa’, Sauti Sol (Kenya), ‘Best African Duo or Group Band’, Manno Beats (Chad/Haiti) ‘Best African Act in the Diaspora’ and Director Kenny (Tanzania) ‘Best African Video’.
