Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of the opposition Liberty Party has been suspended with immediate effect by the Executive Committee, a press statement from the LP said in Monrovia today, Friday, October 1, 2021.

The Montserrado County Senator was suspended for reportedly bringing the party “into public disrepute”.

According to the statement, signed by the LP Secretary General, Martin Saye Kollah said the decision by the Executive Committee to suspend Senator Dillon, Vice Chair for Political and Legislative Affairs for “making several unauthorized public utterances, making derogatory statements against the Chainman and Executives of LP that brought public disrepute to the Party”.

“Public disrepute” means making statements that potentially damaging an institution’s reputation.

The party did not state what specific comments were made by the Montserrado County Senator, said it was an administrative action.

Also suspended along with Sen. Dillon is Mr. Daniel Sando, Vice Chair for Press and Public Affairs of the Liberty Party.

So far, there has been no public reaction from Dillon about this latest action to suspend him

According to the LP release, both men’s deliberate failure to cooperate with the Party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism was another reason for their suspension.

It’s not known exactly what dispute Dillon and Sando failed to yield to, but the LP has been facing a deep rift in recent times over alleged tampering with the party’s constitution and rival support by top executives of Liberty Party for UP leader former VP Joe Boakai and ANC leader Alexander Cummings to be standard bearer for the four-party Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).

The LP however condemns   actions  of  the  two  now suspended  executives   in strongest terms, as it has the propensity to cast unnecessary aspersions on the Party and will not be tolerated.

According to the party’s statement, the both National Executive Committee members’ suspension start October 1, 2021 and ends on March 31, 2022.

Meanwhile, Liberty Party is however cautioning all members or partisans and officials to destitute noting that the party will not tolerate any act which tends to tarnish the reputation of the Party or its officials/members.
