A 12-year-old girl in Liberia’s western Grand Cape Mount County has not only become the latest victim of rape but has been impregnated as a result, amid the Gender Ministry’s latest report on the rise in cases of rape and gender based violence (SGBV).

Reports say 35-year-old man identified as Momodu Senwah has allegedly raped and impregnated the minor in the country’s capital, Robertsport.

In 2019, another classroom teacher from the Pejuhum public school in Grand Cape Mount County allegedly raped and impregnated his 13-year-old student and he is still on the run.

In the latest rape incident, the suspect, Momodu Senwah is a Teacher of an Islamic School, while the survivor is a student in the same institution.

The survivor in an interview with local radio station in the area said, her teacher has been having sexual affairs with her for the past months.

She explained that in December 2022, her teacher asked her to visit his home and where he has sexual intercourse with her.

The survivor added that her teacher has been having sexual intercourse with her three times from December 2022 up to entering 2023.

Also Speaking, the survivor’s mother told Journalists that her daughter was sexually abused by her 35-year-old teacher.

She added, that from the medical test conducted, it was conveyed that her daughter is five (5) months old pregnant.

The mother of the rape survivor has however, called on the Gender Ministry, Cape Mount Caucus and humanitarian organizations to help rescue her daughter.

For his part, the Principal of the Islamic school, Imam Musa Kiazolu said due to the unfortunate incident, the teacher in question has fled and is yet to be seen.

According to him, the issue of teachers having sexual affairs with students secretly has been a serious challenge for his administration, as it is not the first of its kind to happen.

He frowned on the manner in which the 12-year-old child was abused and he is calling for justice for minor.
