An assessment team from the Liberia Airport Authority is in Maryland County to see how best the airport could be improved in its service delivery, LAA officials say.
Most of the countries local airports/airstrips have not been functional due to the 14 years Liberian civil war, which officially ended in 2003.
The Rock Town Airport is one of the largest local airports in Liberia, situated Harper District in this southeastern County and it is expected to be revamped by the Liberian government in collaboration with its international and national partners.
The visit comes as most of the roads leading to Maryland and other parts of the southeast from the Liberian capital, Monrovia are nearly impassable especially during the rainy season.

Maryland County Superintendent George A. Prowd welcomed the team and expressed excitement about the project.
“May the effort of the Government of Liberia and partners come through in order to make the second largest Airport project a successful one. God bless,” the Maryland County Superintendent said.
The construction of the airport is said to have started in 1977 by the late Liberian President, William R. Tolbert, Jr.
