Mohammed Nasser Makes A Vow To Pres. Boakai: “I Will Make You Proud”

GBARNGA, Liberia- Mohammed Nasser has vowed to serve with utmost integrity and commitment at the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia, days after his appointment as Officer-In-Charge.

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai over the weekend appointed Mr. Mohammed Nasser as Officer-In-Charge at the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia days after the suspension of its Director General, Mr. Stanley Ford for reported financial malpractices.

Liberia’s 26th President took the decision on Friday, April 5, 2024 while urging him like other nominees, to serve with integrity, commitment and diligence to country.

A day after his appointment, Mr. Mohammed Nasser, a two-time senatorial candidate in Bong County, took to his official Facebook page to express sincere gratitude to President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for the preferment while promising to serve with the utmost trust in his administration.

“I would like to take this time to extend my gratitude to the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph N Boakia, and a father for placing confidence in my ability and competency to serve in his government. Thank you, Mr. President, we will make you proud,” Mr. Nasser said.

Some residents who and supporters also lauded the president for the appointment while urging Mr. Nasser to make the difference.

They however want him prioritize the institution’s growth over personal gain.

As countless congratulatory messages keep popping up, the Bong County residents however want him look back and help others.

Mr. Nasser, a former president for the Federation of Liberian Youths- the Umbrella Organization for all youth institutions in Liberia, is responsible for the performance of the functions and powers, and for the day-to-day administration of the FIA.

He shall also be answerable to the President of Liberia for the proper administration and overall performance of the FIA.

Chapter 15.1.5.2, section (1) (a) of the AML/CFT Act 2021, empowers the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) to serve as the central coordinating body for the formation of national AML/CFT policies and strategies necessary for the achievement of the objectives of the AML/CFT/CP laws.

The FIA is an independent and autonomous agency established to serve as the central, national agency of Liberia responsible for the receipt, analysis, and conduct preliminary investigations of suspicious transactions or activities reports, currency transactions or activities reports, other information relevant to money laundering, associated predicate offenses, terrorist financing, financing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and proceeds of crime and other transactions or activities reports determined by the FIA and in the AML/CFT Act (FIA Act 2021, Chapter 67.2, Section (1)).

On July 29, 2022, by an act of the National Legislature, the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) Act of 2012, was repealed bringing into being the establishment of the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) of Liberia.

The FIA vision is to build a well-equipped Agency dedicated to an effective Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financing of Terrorism [AML/CFT] regime in Liberia.

The FIA seeks to protect Liberia’s financial system from abuse of financial and economic crime for the enhancement of national, regional, and global peace and economic stability.
