MONROVIA LIBERIA-Three Schools of Montsrrado County have won the county’s championships for the three running categories of Liberia’s first ever set of sustained annual nationwide media-based General Knowledge Pop Quizzing competitions across Liberia.
The competitions are being hosted by Liberian Journalist John Kollie’s organization, Liberia Media for Democratic Initiatives (LMDI) located outside Monrovia.
Following a month-long set of round robbing amongst 75 Primary and Secondary schools, the three schools, the O’NANCE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SYSTEM, The Kesselly Boulevard based ROYAL FOUNDATION SCHOOL and the Paynesville City based Catholic KATHLEEN MAGUIRE captured the three spaces for the ALL GIRLS GENERAL KNOWLEDGE POP QUIZZING, the COMBINED GIRLS & BOYS and NATIONAL MULTIPLICATION COMPETITION or THE MULTIPLIER respectively, according to an LMDI press statement.
In the three categories, the ALL GIRLS of O’NANCE INTERNATIONAL won over the ALL GIRLS of the Somalia Drive community based DUJAR High School at 230—225 points, as the young boys and Girls of the Kesselly Boulevard based ROYAL FOUNDATION SCHOOL triumphed over the Bushrod Island based VICTORY LIFE or MONIQUE MORGAN at 160—95 in the MULTIPLICATION or THE MULTIPLIER , while in the COMBINED TEAMS category for General Knowledge Pop Quizzing, the Catholic KATTHLEEN MAGUIRE beat the TRUE VINE HIGH SCHOOL at 320 —210 points.
The completion of the round robbing for Montserrado County for Year Three brings to six the number of counties that have completed their round robbing for the Year Three of the LMDI set of National General Knowledge Pop Quizzing Competitions.
The first batch of counties to complete were Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, River Gee, Maryland and Sinoe, all from the South Eastern Region of Liberia. The five counties have even entered their regional qualifying rounds and produced their champions for both the combined teams and the All Girls categories.
The Catholic OUR LADY of FATIMAH of Maryland County and The BISHOP JULY of Grand Gedeh are the regional champions for Region ONE or the South East of Liberia under the LMDI arrangement.
Meanwhile, the LMDI announces the start of two days of the qualifying rounds for the Margibi County session of the National General Knowledge Quizzing Competitions, beginning Thursday, March 21, 2019.
The Margibi Session will run from Thursday March 21-2, 2019 at the KAK THEATER at Kakata City, the seat of Margibi County 45 kilometers from Monrovia. 12 schools have registered to compete for the county’s three seats in the three categories.
Meanwhile, LMDI Director JOHN KOLLIE says his organization has resumed its SPELLING BEE competition in response to numerous appeals from schools and parents across Liberia, but warns that the LMDI lacks the financial standing to effectively roll out the SPELLING BEE and appeals for individual, National and International support to roll out the SPELLING for Liberian school Children.
The LMDI has largely financed the running all of its competitions since their launch at the average of at least one hundred thousand U.S. Dollars per annum. For this year considered YEAR THREE, the LMDI needs the annual budgetary average of 120 thousand U.S. Dollars to conduct the three sets of competitions; the General Knowledge Quizzing for High Schools and the SPELLING BEE and Times Table or arithmetic or THE MULTIPLIER for elementary schools around the nation. The LMDI has since launched the YEAR THREE, but its progression has been hindered by the lack of money this year to continue.
