In an effort en to strength collaboration, competition, and increasing participation of businesses in public procurement tendering processes, the Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC) has held a two-day round table discussion near Monrovia.
The discussion, which was a means of formalizing the informal sector of the economy, is sponsored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Speaking in an interview with Journalists on Wednesday in the Paynesville suburb of Monrovia, PPCC Executive Director, Attorney Roseline Nagbe-Kowo disclosed that the discussion is intended to enlighten the heads of companies doing business with the government about the procedure to follow in rendering services and contract for the government .
According to her, the round table discussion is aimed at tendering bid in doing business and services for the government .

Atty. Nagbe-Kowo added that the knowledge gained will also help alleviate the difficulties that companies and businesses face in securing state sponsored contracts with the Liberian government.
The PPCC Executive Director added that discussion is an initiative of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission, particularly designed to strengthen the capacity of businesses to take advantage of the available procurement opportunities.
She cited the case of the 25% procurement exclusively set aside in the Small Business Act for Liberian owned businesses.
According to the PPCC boss, this week’s round table discussion will also help alleviate the difficulties companies and businesses face in securing state sponsored contracts with the Liberian government.
The discussion centered on preparations of a responsive bid or proposal for goods, works, and services procurement, non-consulting services and framework contracting vendor registration procedure and requirements, the modernization of the PPCC, as well as complaint mechanism
The opening ceremony was graced by Robert Dorliae, Program Analyst, Inclusive Governance Pillar at the United Nations Development Program and Oyewole Afuye, the Senior Procurement Specialist at the World Bank office in Monrovia
Held under the theme, “Increase Participation of the Private Sector Business in Public Procurement Tendering to Foster Competition,” the discussion was facilitated by professionals from the PPCC and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
The roundtable brought together over 150 participants representing businesses companies from across Liberia.
A good number of businesses and companies operating in Bong, Nimba, Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties participated in the PPCC forum.
