National Assoc. Of University Women Harper Branch Offers US$6,000 Scholarship

HARPER, Liberia- The National Association of University Women of Liberia, Harper Branch  has awarded Scholarships value six thousand United  States Dollars  (US$ 6,000.00) to three females students at the government owned Tubman University here in Maryland County, which is situated over 637 kilometers southeast of Monrovia.

The Scholarship was awarded by the Association during the seventh annual  Scholarship and Gala event  on the main campus of Tubman University just few miles outside Harper City.

The event was held under the theme: “Continuous Empowerment for Females Education.”

According to the Association’s President, Mrs. Kaliatu E. George, the three females students will be sponsored from their freshmen year until graduation and her branch is appealing to individuals and well-meaning Liberians in and outside Libria to support their Scholarship drive.

”If you educate a man you educate a family but when you educate a woman .you have educated a nation ,we believe in the three females students and they will serve our people and Country.”

William V S Tubman University, previously Tubman College, became a full fledge University after its Administration received accreditation from the National Commission on High Education in September 2009 during the regime of former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Delivering the keynote address, James Jenkins (JJ) Dossen Referral Hospital Medical Director Doctor, Theresa Bian encouraged female students at various universities across Liberia to take their lessons very serious and focus on achieving their dreams and goals.

Madam Bian said empowering and educating females will impact all of people and the society.

The J.J Dossen Hospital Administrator told over one hundred persons at ceremony that there is a need for continuous empowerment of females through education.

“It’s important to educate a female because these people handle homes and our Country at large with their hearts and are very critical on making national decision,” Madam Bian noted.

She lamented that women were previously used in the kitchen by their husbands to cook and wash clothes, but the story of educated women has changed, because they are now supporting their families like their men counterparts do.

For his part, Tubman University President, Dr.Elliot Wreh-Wilson thanked the organizers for the event and encourage Liberians who are financially capable to help support the National Association of University Women of Liberia, Harper Branch’s scholarship drive.
