Natural resources ‘not benefiting’ Citizens’-Rep. Gosuah wants mineral laws revised

Grand Bassa County electoral district #5 Representative Thomas Gosuah has called for Liberian mineral laws to be revised, so that it will directly impact on local communities.

Rep. Thomas Gosuah is the Chairman of the Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists at a ceremony to mark the dedication of the Timbo River Bridge this week, Representative Gosuah said the law is selfish and not benefiting citizen, excluding those that are in the areas that the mineral resources are mined.

He said he and other colleagues met with the Minister of the Ministry of Mines and Energy and they are hoping to meet him again for redress.

The Grand Bassa Representative added that about two weeks ago, he and the Assistant Minister for Operation at the Ministry of Mines and Energy met at the Timbo River where is  a huge number of Ghanaian miners and engaged him on the same issue.

He said that the Assistant Minister promised that he would have gotten to them a report from his report at the mining site.

Upon receipt of the report from the Assistant Minister’s Report, Rep. Gosuah said they will know the next step to take in engaging the matter.

The Grand Bassa County Lawmaker is the Resource person on the House’s Committee on mines and Energy.

Meanwhile, the Grand Bassa District #5 Lawmaker has termed as a total disrespect to the Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus by the Government Liberia by not giving them a formal communication ahead of the Timbo River Bridge Dedication.

He said even up to the day of the bridge dedication, lawmakers of Grand Bassa were not given any notice about the historical event.

Rep. Gosuah said while it is truth that he is a part of this government, he and his colleagues will not accept anything that will appear as disrespect to them.

The Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus Chairman said was it late Tuesday evening that he received call from his County Superintendent that the bridge would have been dedicated on Wednesday; and he could not hold on because the event was historical.
