President George Manneh Weah has commissioned Liberia’s newly confirmed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, His Honor, Joseph Nagbe, who vowed to be “bold and loud” in interpreting the law.
His commissioning on Monday is in fulfillment of the 1986 Constitution. The colorful ceremony took place at the C. Cecil Dennis Auditorium in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the President’s offices are temporarily located.
Cllr. Nagbe replaces former Associate Justice Philip Banks, who was recently retired after reaching the constitutional age limit 70 for members of the Supreme Court Bench.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Liberian leader expressed hope in Cllr. Nagbe’s ability to justify the confidence reposed in him, describing him as great man.
“I have the privilege and honor to be here for this program in honor of a father and brother who has been given the opportunity to serve our country,” an Executive Mansion statement quotes President Weah as saying.
“I want to thank Chief Justice, Francis Korkpor for accepting that our son joins the Supreme Court Bench. Honorable Nagbe, I know you can do the job.”
President Weah said he did not appoint Cllr. Nagbe on the basis of friendship but in keeping with his hard work and understanding of the law.

The new Associate Justice Nagbe used the occasion to thank President Weah for giving him the opportunity to serve his country.
He however pledged to do his best to interpret the law into context.
It can be recalled that President Weah appointed the former Sinoe County Senator on August 8, 2018 to replace retired Justice Philip A. Z. Banks, who was subsequently confirmed by the Honorable Liberian Senate a week later.
Several officials of government as well as prominent sons of Sinoe County, where the new Associate Justice hails, graced the red-lettered commissioning ceremony.
