New home for Old Folks, the Blind, as First Lady donates to orphans

Liberia’s First Lady Mrs. Clar Weah has broken grounds for a construction of a 30–bed room home for Old Folks and Visually Impaired people in Grand Bassa County, as she makes donations to orphans ad the Blind.

The Ground Breaking Ceremony was done on Wednesday on a one acre of land at the Own Your Own Community outside Buchanan city near the concession area of Arcelor Mittal.

The proposed 30 – bed room home for Old Folks and Visually Impaired which will be implemented by Mrs. Clar Duncan Weah, First Lady of Liberia, will be named “Clar Hope Foundation.”

According to Mrs. Weah, the ground breaking was in fulfillment of her promise made to them during her recent visit to Buchanan when she visited homes of the old folks and the blind to know much about their living condition.

“It breaking my heart to see that the land is cleared and they are actually waiting for me to do ground breaking,”Mrs. Weah said.

“I don’t know that has been done. It is a blessing and I will try my best to start this project as soon as possible,” the First Lady added.

“I can see that they really need it,” as she emphasized her commitment to fulfill her promise.

Mrs. Weah said that the project is not just about constructing a building and putting them there but she is praying that they can have aid in the home to take care of the elderly and the blind.

The First Lady thanked the County Authorities for their support as she expressed her appreciation for their blessing towards the project.

She said that President Weah has spoken so much about Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh of being very supportive to the party, something Mrs. Weah said he has demonstrated in a relatively short period of time to her.

At the ground breaking ceremony, Mrs. Weah expressed her happiness about the project and promised to work on all her promises she has made during her first visit in the county.

“I am a woman of my word,” Mrs. Weah told the citizens and county leadership at the ground breaking site how she is going to work hard to see the project come to completion.

The ground breaking ceremony was attended by the County Authorities, citizens and residents of the county.

Meanwhile,  First Lady Clar Weaha has distributed several food and assorted items to four orphanages including two towns in Grand Bassa County.

The orphanages are MODUC, God Heritage, Light House, and Caring for Tomorrow Generation.

Mrs. Weah also distributed some items to the elderly people in Dwen and Chea Towns outside of Buchanan City.

The Items distributed were rice, flower, sugar, milk, book bags, tissues, mattresses, cups and among others.

According to the First Lady Mrs. Clar Weah, the donation was her way of showing love and concern for the citizens and orphanages in the county.

“As the Superintendent said that I am not just the First Lady for Monrovia but I am the First Lady for all of Liberia,” she restated the words of the Superintendent.

“I gave some food items in Monrovia last Thursday and I just want the people in the village to feel the same so I brought some food for the elderly,” she told the beneficiaries as they cheered for her.

Mrs. Weah told the elderly people to rest assure that she will always work in their interest.

Presenting the items on Wednesday, she promised to come back to continue with her kind gesture in the county.

In remark, the Founder of the MODUC Orphanage in the Tarr Bar Community in Buchanan Mother Mary Beah thanked Mrs. Weah on behalf of the beneficiaries.

“For the First lady to leave from way up there and come down to us, I see it as a blessing for us who have received those items today,” Mother Beah stated.

The 44 year old retire teacher who taught both in public and private schools in Grand Bassa County, said she decided to not sit for nothing but to open an orphanage to take care of children who do not have parents and help them to become productive citizens in the society.

“All through people have been good to me since I started running the orphanage,” Mother Beah concluded.
