CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia, June 12, 2026 – At long last, the barrage of calls from students, student leaders, student political parties, lecturers, professors have yielded fruitful results; as the Administration of the state owned University of Liberia, headed by Dr. Layli Marpayan, has made a significant progress in ensuring that students of the university get hold of identification cards.

It has been roughly three years since students last received identification cards from the UL authority, something that has been vehemently condemned by students, student leaders, student political parties, lecturers, and professors, who all emphasized the importance of students getting identified.

The last time students received identification cards from the UL was in 2022.

Since her inception as the UL Provost, Dr. Marpayan has promised to resolve some of significant issues, pinpointing renovations, standardizing and regularizing academic calendar, solving student transportation issue, and minimaxing the long stay of students at the Nation’s Premier University.

Of most of her promises made during her inauguration, Marpayan has made some important inroads–ranging from tackling interrupted semesters by student political parties and faculty strikes that have been stalling smooth academic learning at the University of Liberia.

Though there are still significant hurdles like the unconducive restrooms, still deplorable buildings, and limited academic materials, the UL Chief Administrator has highlighted to resolve them in due course.

Recently, she disclosed that renovation will soon commence at the AB building, but added that there be a construction of a new building near the AB building so that it can help continued learning while the building is undergoing rehabilitation.

Still, Dr. Marpayan has been stringent in ensuring academic proficiency, transparency, and meritocracy, as she is making sure to restore the country premier university’s integrity.

Today, the UL entrance is one of the areas that has greatly improved, setting a bar against manipulation.

After meeting with students recently, she revealed that the university is in the progress to commence the issuance of student ID cards and the commencement of students’ transportation by providing buses before the next semester.

Based on the commitment made, the University of Liberia (UL) has begun issuing student identification cards on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, on its Capitol Hill campus, with the process starting with student leaders.

The Division of Student Affairs disclosed that it had processed and served more than 100 student leaders by 2:00 p.m. on June 9 since the exercise began earlier in the day.

Mr. J. David Karpennoh, Assistant Dean for Student Activities and Organization in the Division of Student Affairs, said the quick-service setup will help UL complete the program efficiently. He added that once a student is processed, the ID card is issued in less than two minutes.

“It’s a quick service process. The office has served over 100 people since this morning, and the process is very fast,” he added.

The UL Administration mandated that after receiving the identification cards, students are required to carry their IDs at all times while on campus and to display.

Authority says Replacement of lost ID cards will cost US$10.00.

With the commencement of the new development, students, lecturers, and professors have hailed the administration for rebeginning the student ID cards process.

Both lecturers and professors of the university say this new achievement will help curb criminal activities and ensure that the UL surrounding is fully secured.
