SPORTS: No CDC Gov’t Funding For National Sports Meet Days To The Opening

Just days before the annual National County Sports Meet is due to start, the CDC government, headed by the former Liberian international football icon, has failed to release funds for the tournament.

The Ministry of Youth and sports has revealed that it has not received any funding from national government less than one a week to the kickoff of this year’s National Counties meet.

Deputy Minister of Sport Andy Quamie made the revelation recently the Ministry of Information weekly press briefing ahead of 2022/2023 national counties meet.

Mr. Quamie said the ministry is yet to receive funding meant for the conduct of this year sports festival. According to Minister Quamie, noted that thought there is a delay, but he said consultations are ongoing between the Ministry of Finance and Youth and Sports.

The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister is encouraging citizens to rally support for their counties as the ministry is working out modalities in securing the funding in the coming days. He also urged Liberians to use the 2022/2023 national counties meet to unit and promote peace amongst each other.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Youth and sports has released the calendar of events leading to this year’s national counties meet in Liberia.

The official kickoff of the sports festival is expected December 17, with one of the host counties Grand Bassa.
