As Grand Kru Supporter Philip Weah Blasts Gov’t Over “Frustration”

Philip Weah, a known grassroots supporter of the ruling Unity Party in Grand Kru County, has openly blasted the Unity Party-led government, accusing it of frustrating loyal partisans who stood firmly behind the party during the elections.

In a strongly worded statement circulating on social media, Weah did not hide his disappointment with the government, warning that committed supporters are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with what many see as neglect and broken political expectations.

“The Unity Party frustrated us, but never mind, fighters. We will show up again. The Unity Party will know we can do better than ever before. Never lose hope,” Weah declared.

His statement is being interpreted by many political observers as a sign of widening frustration within the ruling party’s grassroots structure, particularly in southeastern Liberia where supporters claim they sacrificed time, energy, and resources to ensure the party’s victory but are now being sidelined.

The comments also expose what appears to be growing internal anger among ordinary partisans who believe the government has failed to adequately recognize or empower loyal supporters after assuming state power.

While senior officials of the Unity Party have remained silent on the statement, critics argue that the administration risks alienating its strongest base if concerns from the grassroots continue to be ignored.

Weah’s comments have since sparked reactions online, with some supporters agreeing that the government has disappointed many partisans, while others called for patience and unity within the party.

The latest criticism adds to mounting public concerns over the Unity Party government’s relationship with its grassroots supporters, especially in counties where expectations for inclusion and development remain high.
