The Management of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) has embarked on an expanded plan for the year 2021, geared towards re-branding the station, Liberia’s state broadcaster has announced in Monrovia.
LBS Director General Mrs. Estelle Liberty Kemoh disclosed that LBS, at a high level management consultative meeting, resolved to undertake an immediate program restructuring exercise to add value to its broadcast services to the public.
Programs highlighting health, education, economics, politics, law and culture as well as justice, peace and security, women and youth empowerment, have been identified to be introduced as of next Monday, January 11th, 2021, while at the same time extending LBS airtime schedule beyond the traditional 12 midnight period.
The LBS management noted that the new program undertaking directly aligns with Government of Liberia’s development plan and agenda in fulfillment of its role as the state broadcaster in informing and promoting national programs to the public, to reflect the unique Liberian identity. She expressed the need for Liberia to catch up with advances in technology by ensuring rapid digital migration in the broadcast sector in the near future.
Madam Liberty-Kemoh added that the LBS management is also pursuing capacity building opportunities for its staff, to enhance their work performance and commended the entire workforce for their continued commitment to duty.
Meanwhile, Director General Estelle Liberty Kemoh has disclosed that the LBS management will begin the installation of energy efficient mini FM transmitters in populated county capitals across Liberia in February this year, as a part of its expansion program to reach a greater segment of the Liberian population.
She stressed the need for increased budgetary support for the LBS, and noted that the management of LBS will continue to lobby key stakeholders, including the national legislature for financial boost for the entity.
The LBS Director General said the new exercise at LBS is being undertaken in direct consultation with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the LBS, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie, whom she described as the original Architect of the LBS expansion program.
