Tight security measures for President Weah’s State of the Nation Address

The House of Representatives Chairperson on Executive, Montserrado County District #9 Rep. Munah Pelham Youngblood says over 70% of preparation have been achieved for the president annual massage, with tight security measures being put in place.

In keeping with the Liberian 1986 constitution, the President shall address the nation every year on the fourth working Monday.

Article 58 of the Liberian constitution states: “The president on the fourth working Monday in January of each year, present the administration’s Legislative program for ensuing session and once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic in presenting the economic condition for the Republic the report shall cover expenditure as well as income.”

During this annual massage, the President provides information about his legislative agenda, the progress made, challenges and the prospects of the government.

In an interview with legislative Reporters recently, Rep. Youngblood, who is from the ruling CDC party, said that the members of the public should remain at home and  monitor the Television or radio; as tight security measures will be put in place to ensure that the Liberian leader smoothly carry out his constitutional mandate.

The Montserrado County District #9 lawmaker, who just returned to duty after a protracted period of illness, appears to have returned to the Capitol with more vigor.

Next Monday’s speech will be the third Stat of the Nation Address to be delivered by President George Manneh Weah since he took office in 2018, replacing Liberia and Africa’s first female President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.  She served two six years terms, which the Liberian constitution limits all Presidents to.

Several Lawmakers including controversial Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah have threatened to boycott President Weah forthcoming address due to various reasons.

At the same time, Rep. Youngblood assured her constituents that she has returned prepared to work in the interest of the people of the district and the nation.
