Tubman University in Maryland holds Administrative Retreat on 10-year plan

HARPER, Liberia- Over sixty two staffers of the William V S Tubman University have taken part in the University’s Administrative Council Retreat, which has been described as “successful”.

The Retreat was held under the theme: ”Planning and Implementing for the Viability and Sustainability of Tubman University.”

The day-long forum brought together Professors from various Colleges, Dean’s from the university six Functional Colleges, Students Administrators, Directors and all departments of the university were all represented at the just-ended Retreat .

This is the first retreat of its kind since the current President of Liberia’s second public University, Dr. Elliott Wreh Wilson took over in March of 2018, after he was appointed by the Liberian Leader President George Mannah  Weah to steer the affairs of TU..

Tubman University has had three President since it gain full-fledged University status in 2009 by the Commission on Higher Education and the Liberian Government under the leadership of former Liberian leader, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and her Unity Party government. Its first President was Dr.Elizabeth Davis Russell, Second President was Dr, Edward Lama Workeyor and its current head it Dr. Wreh Wilson.

According to the Chief of Staff in the office of Tubman University President and Chair on the organizing Committee, Rev. Cyrus Tugbeh, they discussed a range of important issued and planned for the smooth operations of this higher institution of learning for the next ten years,.

The Chief of Staff said “it is important that we as Tubman university Administration in collaboration with Students developed working plan for the Administration for them to be guided by in terms of maintaining Quality and Excellence as a University.”

Rev. Tugbeh said to further maintain their integrity as a University, the Organizing Committee and I formulated  plans, in order to host the Retreat and it is significant in that they will  come up with means to move and improve the institution for the Common Good of our Students and the Liberian Society.

The first Decade in the History of the University ended few weeks ago when we jointly Celebrated Tubman university Ten years in existence as a full-fledged University and will begin a new Decade comes 2020 and is important that they brainstormed and carve out new plans.

The chair on the Retreat organizing Committee disclosed that since 2015 the university has not held any Retreat and the university has been operating for Ten years now eight students were invited to take part in the Retreat, including the Tubman University Students government Association President, Mr. Smith Samah.

Recently, Tubman University was ranked as the best University in Liberia by World Bank and this Administration headed by Dr.Elliott Wreh-Wilson is working in collaboration with students and partners for the betterment and improvement of TU.

Speaking to www.newspublictrust.com in Maryland County, Rev Tugbeh said it is important that Tubman university developed plans to raise  internal Revenue  through Agricultural Activities , Research  activities promotion and also developed plans  to maintain the institution in line with international standards of Higher Education. 

Tubman university has worked with the plans from the 2015 Retreat which was held in the city of Harper and now is time that we strategies and formulated new plans that will take us and our institution to another level.

He noted that “Agriculture and Research activities are Keen if we are to sustain the University, any giving higher Institution when it comes to Academic without Research, the Existence of that Institutions is uncertain.”

“Tubman University is being funded by the Liberian Government 100%. But internal revenue generation is Important and we are also trying on our own to maintain and implementing the TU using our local Resources.

I am glad to be part of this Family and Administration providing Educational Services to the Liberian People through Tubman university and we are  happy  that Liberian government  continued to do what she is obligated to doing in terms of Funding the TU,” Rev. Tugbeh said.

TU is the only Government of Liberia institution of higher learning in Southeastern Liberia and is Providing Quality Education to students from the Region and other parts of Liberia.

The institution has six functional Colleges, which include the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Management and Administration, the College of Engineering and Technology, the College of Food science and Agriculture and the Elizabeth Davis Russell College of Education and a Pre-Access to College Department.

In a related development, over 200 high school graduates are expected to sit the placement Exams of the Tubman University on Saturday November 23, 2019 on the campuses of the university.

Graduates are qualified to write the placement Exams were adequately informed about the Exam during their Open House orientation which was held on Friday of this week.

Qualify Candidates sitting the exams were given slips to prove their Registration complete for the exam payments.

Those wanting to write the exams were required to pay the amount of 15 United States Dollars as Entrance fee and 250 Liberian Dollars as application forms fee. Students who registered both in Grand Gedeh, Sinoe and Maryland counties were asked to travel to the Port City of Harper in Tubman Town to sit the Final Placement Exams of TU in 2019.
