The former ruling Unity Party (UP) Legislative Caucus has given their support to Representative Yekeh Kolubah requesting the judiciary branch of government to abundant it quest to have him arrested.

The UP, which is now the main opposition party, is being headed by former Vice President Joseph Boakai as its political leader.

Speaking at a news conference in Monrovia this week, the Chairperson of the Unity Party Legislative Caucus and Representative of Montserrado County district # 17 Hanson Kaizolu called on the Judiciary to abandon their quest to issue an arrest warrant against the Montserrado County District #10 lawmaker, Yekeh Kolubah.

The UP Legislative Caucus told the news conference that the Judiciary should not politicize the administration of justice, neither to join what they called “the current wrath of political tension between the Executive and some members of the Legislature.”

It added that it will not alter well for the governing process in Liberia.

“It has come to the attention of the Unity Party and the Alternative National Congress (ANC) Legislative Caucuses that Hon. Yekeh Kolubah has been opted by the Judiciary branch to be issued an arrest warrant on charges levied on him by the Liberia National Police,” said the UP Legislative Caucus.

As much they do not support the mal-handling or brutality by any official of government against peaceful citizens, the UP Caucus cautioned that the procedures or process that will lead to the indictment of any sitting lawmaker be duly followed as a matter of precedents.

‘’If we can recount from historical facts that, former Senator; Hon. Roland Karn of Margibi County and Hon. Emmanuel Willie of Grand Gedeh were both accused of felonious offenses while serving as a sitting Lawmaker in all these events, the accused being members of the Honorable Legislature at the time were firstly engaged through the plenary by the executive or judiciary before being turned over to the Judiciary for prosecution as a matter of procedure and respect for the Honorable Legislature,’’ Lawmakers from the main opposition Unity Party noted.

In recent months, the Montserrado county District # 10 representatives has been in the news for his stands against Liberian president George M. Weah, House Speaker Bhofal Chambers, and by large the Liberian government over what the lawmaker has considered as unpatriotic running of government and stagnation of the Liberian state by the George Weah led government.

The Montserrado County lawmaker is currently being investigated by his colleagues over his involvement with violence in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

The committee is expected to provide a report of the investigation to the plenary of the House of Representatives within less than a week now.
