An eleven-man delegation from the First Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, United States of America is in the country as guests of the Mount Galilee Baptist Church in Careyburg, Montserrado County.
Speaking in an interview shortly after their arrival, the Pastor of Mount Galilee Baptist Church, Reverend Jimmy Diggs, said the delegation is in the country because one of the founders of the Baptist Convention in Liberia , Lott Carey, was from their church in the United States.
The Pastor of the Mount Galilee Baptist Church narrated that the importance of the visit is that Lott Carey, who is from their church in the US, is the first clergyman to pastor in the historic Providence Baptist Church where the declaration of Liberia independence was declared in 1847.
“They choose Careysburg because this is the only city named in honor of Lott Carey and the other institution also named in his honor is the Lott Carey Baptist Mission School in Brewerville,” he added.
According to Reverend Diggs, the delegation, which comprises medical doctors, dentists, trauma counselors, clergymen and women on Tuesday embarked on rendering free medical and dental services at the Public Clinic in Careysburg.
Reverend Diggs explained that another group was at another scene be offering free counseling for girls., women, and youths as well as educating them about the importance of going to church.
Beneficiaries came from all walks of life including Christians and non-Christians, Muslims old and young, women, young people and the elderly.
Those whose illness needed further treatment were given medicines and referred for further medications after the diagnosis on the illnesses were identified.
Later this week, the delegation will be paying a courtesy call on President Joseph Boakai, who himself is a Baptist Deacon and they also be visiting touristic areas such as the Kpatawee water fall in Bong County , the Lott Carey Baptist Mission School in Brewerville, the historic Providence Baptist Church
On Sunday, the Mount Galilee Baptist Church will be hosting a thanksgiving service for the delegation for their safe arrival and departure will be on Tuesd
