Woman, Age 45 Allegedly Commits Suicide In Sinoe County

Reports from Sattakru in District two in Liberia’s southeastern Sinoe County say a 45-year-old woman and mother of children identified as Evelyn Keteh has allegedly committed, after being accused of being a witchcraft.

One report says the victim on several occasions had been accused of engaging in witchcraft activities and was allegedly responsible for eating human being ‘in witchcraft form’.

Victim Keteh is said to have earlier drunk chloride to kill herself but it didn’t work in her system to accomplish that aim.

But in her latest move, the woman is said to have hung herself in her room recently with her lappa, after her husband went to hunt in the bush. But prior to hanging herself, the 45-year-old woman told some members of her community that she can’t sleep at night because she can be hearing funny noise from some evil spirit.

More besides, when she goes in the bush, she usually feel evil sounds around her, according to the report.

One account says when her husband returned from hunting the following morning, last Thursday, he met the door lock from within and he knocked continuously on their room door but there was no response. That claimed her husband’s attention and so he called some community dwellers to inquire as to why the door was locked in and he didn’t sleep home.

The community dwellers therefore burst the door, went in and saw the victim hanging, after which he reported the matter to the police.

Meanwhile, after examining the corpse of the woman, the Coroner’s jury said there was no foul play and that she has since been buried. Report by Garmah Never Lomo
