GBARNGA, Liberia- A group of young people under the canopy “Concerned Youths of Gbarnga” has petitioned the Bong County Legislative Caucus headed by Senator Prince Kermue Moye for the recommendation of a young man- Mr. Abraham Kris Sulonteh for appointment as City Mayor of Gbarnga by President Joseph Boakai.

Reading the petition over the weekend, its Secretary General, J. Prince Momo stated that, Mr. Abraham Kris Sulonteh- a Master’s Degree holder in Public Personnel Management from Cuttington University will affectively lead the city with the full cooperation and involvement of the citizens and the central government for the beautification of Gbarnga in line with the Local Governance Act.

Local Governance Act (LGA) passed in 2018, amongst other qualifications, requires the Mayor of Gbarnga to have at least a first degree.

Abraham Kris Sulonteh, the man the petitioners say is their choice

“Abraham understands the Local Governance Act and the local government structure very well, looking at his field of studies in his first degree (Public Administration) where he has served in other administrative roles in the county” the group highlighted.

The petitioners believe that, his international connection will further link Gbarnga city with other international cities to establish a better sister city relationship with them that Gbarnga can be a benefactor- ranging from mobility to other essential sanitation materials; thus making Gbarnga a vibrant area to reside.

The concerned young people also stated that, waste disposal- a major challenge for the Gbarnga City Cooperation, under his watch will be affectively handled thus leading to a clean city.

“You will not have people dropping plastics all along the streets as there will be trash cans provided to every shop along the Gbarnga Broad street to handle wastes. Our city police will be deplored everywhere to aid in this fight” the group outlined.

“Abraham Kris Sulonteh along with the citizens will work together as per the City Ordiness to improve the city through the erections of up-to-date structures on the main road”.

The concerned youths stated that Abraham will work with every home in Gbarnga to have an up-to-date home by ensuring there is bathroom and at least painted. This will be done under his quest for providing environmental education to residents of Gbarnga and environs.

On accountability, the group noted that, Abraham will generate, maintain and appropriately allocate revenues in a dedicated manner to manage the city, manage funds effectively and allocate resources where they are needed most to benefit all residents.

They are however appealing to the Bong Legislative Caucus to recommend Mr. Abraham Kris Sulonteh for the Mayor.

Article 54 of the revised 1986 Liberian Constitution gives exclusive right to the president to appoint and dismiss at any point in time; but the group argues that article one (1) also gives the power to the people that “All free governments are instituted by their authority and for their benefit and they have the right to alter and reform the same when their safety and happiness so require”.

Responding to the citizens’ petition, Senator Prince Kermue Moye appreciated the Concerned Youths of Gbarnga for the petition.

The Bong County senator promised to take the petition to President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for the necessary action.

So far, five prominent individuals’ names have surfaced in the county.

They are: Mr. Abraham Kris Sulonteh, Mr. Jutomue Marcus Kimbo, Mr. Lawrence A. Yallah, Mr. Steve Kennedy and Madam Marline T. Jarwoe.

But the sixty-four thousand question is: who takes the day?
