“Zogos” threaten demonstration for Justice in Gbarnga, Liberia

Gbarnga, Liberia- Several wayward/less- fortunate youths alias “Zogos” under the banner ‘New Generation’ in Gbarnga, Bong County  in central Liberia are threatening to demonstrate in protest against physical assault on one of their colleagues allegedly by a local businessman in the areas.

The “Zogos” say they are demanding justice for the victimization of one Prince Williams recently in this County, which is some 169 kilometers from the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

A recent survey conducted by the Liberia Refugees Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) said there are a total of over 25,000 less-fortunate persons in the country that need urgent rehabilitation assistance.

Speaking in an interviews with www.newspublictrust.com in Gbarnga on Friday, July 12, 2019, the President of the less- fortunate youth Fofee Kamara alleged that businessman Puchue Harris always in the constant hobbit of beating on members of his organization in the County.

Mr. Kamara claimed that businessman Puchue Harris allegedly orders the flogging of one of his members Prince William, commonly known as Sumo on grounds that he (Sumo) stole his electrical wires from his house in the County.

“Puchue always in the constant habit of beating on people’s children, because he feels that the society they are in nobody can do anything to them. He went as far as flogging on the other boy Sumo and wasted acid on him the last time in the Community,” Mr. Kamara also alleged.    

According to him, the medical condition of Sumo is becoming terrible on a daily basis, because he is urinating with blood and he is not hearing correctly.

The President of the less-fortunate youths in Gbarnga said they forwarded the complaint against the businessman’s alleged action to the Liberia National Police local office in Gbarng, which prompted his (Puchue). But he said the businessman later released allegedl on order from Bong County District#3 Representative J. Marvin Cole.

Since the reported release of Puchue Harris, Mr. Kamara claimed that they have not got any information from the Police about the case.

“Each time we pass at his business center we done see him, and if Sumo die Puchue will head responsible for his dead,” he said.    

The Bong County less- fortunate youth President is calling on the Bong County security apparatus to institute measures to immediately re-arrest Puchue Harris for thorough investigation.

If not, he said they going to demonstrate in Bong County and no Security man will be able to arrest them.

For his part, victim Sumo denied the allegation that levied against him by businessman Puchue Harris that he was the one who stole his cooper wires from his house or generator room in Gbarnga.

Sumo said at no time did he go to Puchue house to get wire, but revealed that he was only accused by Puchue because he (Sumo) was send by one old man, whom he did not name to buy a local spirit, cane juice  from a shop around Puchue’s house when he was accused of stealing wires.

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police Chief Superintendent in Gbarnga, Fredrick Nappy has denied the allegation that at no time was businessman Puchue Harris released on orders from Representative J. Marvin Cole as it has been speculated.

The local police official revealed that while they was preparing the charge sheet for defended Harris to be forward to Court, businessman Harris escaped form the Police Station in Gbarnga.

According to Police Chief Superintendent Nappy, businessman Puchue is currently on the run and he is now wanted by the Police in Bong County.

Nappy further said that as soon Puchue Harris is arrested, he will be charged for criminal attempt to commit murder and aggravated assault.

At the same time, the Police Chief Superintendent in Gbarnga has urged the “Zogos” in Bong not to carry out their threat to demonstrate.

Chief Superintendent Nippy says he and his officers will talk to them to disengage from their plan.  

Usually, ordinary people doing their daily chores become victims of the “Zogos” but now it seems that the tide has turned.
