2 girls raped in Liberia’s Grand Cape Mt. County, as Police pursue suspects

-Police in search of two suspects on the run

Reports from Dammala and Bohy, Grand Cape Mount County in Western Liberia say two children have allegedly been brutally raped by unknown men, with one of the victims said be seriously ill some 86 kilometers from Monrovia.

According to Liberia’s 2005 Rape Law, rape is a non bailable crime and it is Statutory rape to sexually abuse children under the age of 18, whether or not the individual consents.

One of the victims, age 11 was allegedly raped in Bohy by a man only identified as Siafa, the latest in a wave of sexual abuse cases across Liberia. The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has described the rate of rape in post war Liberia as “extremely high”.

The 11-year-old victim explained to police investigators that she and the alleged suspect have been friendly for some time and the alleged suspect has been buying some school items for her, including copy books, pencil among other things, until recently, nothing like sexual issue had occurred between them.

However, the 11-year-old child disclosed that on the 11th of November 2019, she was called by one of Siafa’s friends to his house and she went. While standing at the entrance of the door, she said she was forcibly pulled into the room by the alleged suspect and he began having sex with her.

Although the incident is said to have occurred on the 11th of November, was only reported on the 17th.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator is currently on the run.

Another report from the area says a 17-year-old girl, who was recently raped, is currently in critical condition and she needs urgent attention.

Details surrounding how she was raped is yet to be known.

Police in the Grand Cape Mount County are currently in search for the two alleged raped suspects. Report by Garmah Never Lomo
