Good news has come from the Twitter feed of former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who has posted today, Friday, May 13, 2022 that she has successfully undergone a surgery.
Although the first elected African and Liberian female President did not say where the surgery was carried out, Mrs. Sirleaf tweeted, “I am recovering well with my family”.
No sooner had her successful surgery to fix a compressed nerve been completed, the 83-year-old former Liberian leader who has been affectionately referred to as “the iron lady”, already has her mind set on resuming work soon.
Mrs. Sirleaf left office in January 2018, after completing her constitutionally required two-term limit, when she oversaw Liberia’s first constitutional hand over of power from one democratically elected government to another in over 40 years.
Her Unity Party’s candidate and then incumbent Vice President Joseph Boakai was defeated by the then main opposition CDC candidate and now President George Manneh Weah in the October 2017 election.
