Instructional Materials, Equipment Damaged And The School’s Authorities Make Urgent Appeal For Help

SANOYEA, Liberia- Some 250 pupils today have no roof over their heads in the Jar-Kpan-ta Public School building in Sanoyea District in the central Bong County as a result of a rainstorm.
Two residents of the town informed this news outlet that the incident occurred on Thursday evening after a heavy down pour of rain.
Jar-kpa-ta Public School was constructed in 2011 and is the only elementary school in the region.
The school’s Principal Johnny Gbokolo and a resident Charles Tenatuah Gbokolo disclosed that due to the incident over two hundred fifty school going children are being denied education.
“By the evening hours, we were encountered heavy rain. The entire roof got damaged. Now, the children aren’t going to school because everything was damaged,” they told journalists the scene.
They want the Ministry of Education and other humanitarians help in replacing the roof for the students to resume classes.
“We want zinc, nails, planks, etc. to recondition the facility. If we don’t, it means educational activities will not be effective. We need assistance,” the authorities of the school pleaded.
They disclosed that instructional materials including books were destroyed during the incident.
For her part, the students’ council president of the school Blessing Leetor expressed sadness over the disaster that affected their school and wants the quick intervention of the government.
Our eporter who visited the area saw frustrations in the faces of citizens due to the incident that has affected the only public school in the area.
Dr. Silas Juaquellie, Sanoyea School District Education Officer has also spoken of the damage the storm caused to the school.
According to him, the situation has since been communicated to his bosses.
