Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau To Be Set Up In Liberia

Participants at the end of a two-day meeting organized by the Ministry of Transport, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority with funding from the Roberts Flights International Region have adopted a number of resolutions calling for the establishment of the Liberia Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau.

The meeting, which was facilitated by the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency, also resolved that the bureau will be set up at the Ministry of Transport and to be headed by a commissioner.

Reading the resolution, the Director of Air Navigation Services at the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, Augustine Tamba said the commissioner must be an individual with wealth of experience in the aviation sector.

The resolution directed that Transport Minister will put measure in place where the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority will help the newly established Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau to clear the outstanding fees while the subsequent payment of the subscription will budgeted by the bureau.

According to the resolution, the Ministry of Transport in conjunction with the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority will communicate with the International Civil Aviation Association to level fees to fund the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau in Liberia.

The resolution called on the Ministry of Transport shall ensure the establishment of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, the implementation of its mandate by 2022.

The resolution was signed by the Charles Erhueh, Commissioner of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency; the Sam Wulue, Minister of Transport and Chief Moses Kollie, Director General of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority,

In  remarks, the Director General of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, Chief Moses Kollie,  assured stake holders in the aviation sector that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau will be setup by July next year.

Chief Kollie thanked the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation for facilitating the discussion and the Roberts Flight Information Region for sponsoring the meeting .

According to him, Liberia as a member-state of the international aviation organization will ensure that it will be good standing as required by the rule and constitution of the organization.

Speaking on behalf of Transport Minister Samuel Wulue , the Assistant Minister for Land and Rail Transport, Joseph Roberts, stressed the need to have qualified Liberians trained to investigate aircraft accidents in Liberia.

He assured the Transport Ministry fullest cooperation in making the outcome of the resolution of the meeting come to reality.

The meeting brought together participants from the Roberts Flight International Region, the Liberia Airport Authority, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, and the Ministry of Transport, among others.
