Another Fatal Motorcycle Accident: 2 Die, One Person Seriously Injured

HARPER, Liberia– Two persons have died instantly and another in critical condition, when two commercial motorcycles collided along the recently paved Pleebo-Harper highway near Yookudi town in Maryland County, 587 kilometers southeast of Monrovia.

This is the latest in a series of fatal commercial motorcycle accidents across Liberia in recent weeks.

The incident happened four days ago (October 21, 2021) and victims who were killed were 40-year-old David Gbafore and Sabo Toe, age 46, who both died instantly in the accident, when the two motorbikes collided.

The third person, who is yet to be identified, is currently said to be in critical condition at the J.J. Dossen Referral Hospital in Harper.

Maryland County Police Chief Inspector and Traffic Commander, Moses Z. Teoh said that the two blue TVS Star motorcycles collided in a curve in Yookudi along the Pedebo Road in Harper District.

Inspector Teoh further explained that the two bikes came from opposite directions with speed and instantly ran into each other in a curve, leaving the two persons dead instantly.

One of the victims, 40-year-old David Gbafore was a businessman who was en route from Harper to Pleebo when he met his instant death. The body of Sabo Toe, who was coming from the opposite direction, has since been taken to his hometown in Feloken, Barrobo District for burial.

The deaths of David Gbafore and Sabo Toe bring to14 persons the number of people, who have reportedly died from January to October 21, 2021 as a result of road accidents in Maryland County.

The part of the highway where this latest accident happened had previously seen several fatal crashes and serious injuries of several persons.

Police Inspector Teoh said the Police have launched an investigation into the tragic accident.

He disclosed that the Liberia National Police has in its possession two bags of slippers along with the two bikes involved in the head-on collision.

People in the area said such fatal crashes on this highway is worrisome.

“This other kind of death is very bad mehn, these people left their various family home to hustle; see what it has ended to,” one eyewitness lamented.

“My people, only God knows what is happening now oooh because this wonderful road is causing more untimely deaths!” another resident of the area said.
