Barrobo “Jungle justice” killing condemned by Liberians in US

The Barrobo United Development Association in the US has strongly condemned the recent killing of three citizens of Rock Town, Barrobo Statutory District and we want to face justice” the release quoted the president.

In a press release dated September 24, 2019, BUDA frowns on the extrajudicial killings and calls on the people of Rock Town Barrobo Statutory District to eschew nob justice.

The organization of Barrobo United Development Association based in the US wants citizens of the area to respect sanctity of life and seek to resolve matters through the rule of law and not violent.

“We want people of the area respect sanctity of life and seek to resolve matters through the rule of law to avoid problems that in the district” he cautions.

BUDA also calls on the government of the Liberia to speedily investigate the matter and bring those found culpable of the killing to bear the full weight of the law.

The US-based Barrobo United Development Association said it attention has been drawn to the reports circulating in local Liberian dailies and on social media of the alleged killing of three citizens of district.

Recently, three citizens of Rock Town community including Chief Isaac Weah Saydee, Isaac Gortoe and an 18-year old David Nugbo were accused of practicing witchcraft activity thus threatening to kill several people.

The group (BUDA) speaking through its President Samuel Tanwin Gwesinie said it wants those who were allegedly involved and are on the run to be apprehended to face justice because their action contravene the Liberian constitution.

“All those who were allegedly linked to the killing including those who are on the run must go through due process of law to serve as deterrent for would be noon-law abiding citizen,” he noted.

The Barrobo United Development Association Based in the US statement comes after police charged and sent to the Pleebo Magisterial Court for alleged murder of three citizens in Rock Town few weeks ago.

Mr. Roosevelt Nyanford, speaking on behalf of the Barrobo Development Association based in Maryland County, said citizens Barrobo are pined and want justice to prevail to serve as deterrent for anyone who engages in an unlawful act.

“We are not about the incident in Barrobo Statutory District and we want our county authority to get involve in order to speed up the investigation process,” he emphasized.

Mr. Nyanford said despite the unlawful killing of those three persons, citizens of Rock Town, Barrobo Statutory District will not take the law into their own hands but anticipate that justice will be dispended to avoid the reoccurrence.

On Tuesday September 3, 2019, the Liberia National Police Maryland County Detachment rushed on the crime scene and made the arrest of eight suspects out of the 14 persons who were involved in the alleged killing.

According to Maryland County Police Detachment Commander Jacob Comehn, 14 persons were allegedly accused of brutally murdering Isaac Weah Sadyee, Town Chief, Isaac Gortoe and an eighteen year old boy identified as David Nugbo.

Commander Comehn told journalists on Wednesday September 2, 2019, about 7:45A.M he received call from Rock Town Community in Barrobo indicating that three residents of the town have been murdered by 14 persons of the community.

We went to Rock Town Community on September 3, 2019 and arrested eight persons in connection with the alleged murdering of three residents of they claimed were witchcrafts” Comehn narrared.

Those arrested on Tuesday September 3, 2019 in Rock Town Community in Barrobo include John Tewah age 49, Moses Chea age50, Sam Gbaquee age 49, Chea Karmune age 49 Deagba Toe age 50, David Weah age 33, Solomon Weah age 35 and Cyrus Doe age 35.

Commander Comehn further told the press that the suspects accused the three deceased of been witchcrafts and brought them in the middle of town for questioning following their alleged participation in witchcraft activities in the town.

Accordingly, the deceased later confessed openly that they have earlier planned to kill some residents of Rock Town community through witchcraft activity but didn’t disclose why they planned to kill them.

Comehn did not disclose whether the three accused were not tortured before making confession that they have planned to kill the 14 persons who later killed the victims with cutlasses and other sharp objects.

The Maryland County Police commander reported that Chief Isaac Weah Saydee town two hands were cut and two eyes were burst, Isaac Gortoe was chapped with cutlasses in neck while eight years old David Nugbo was also hit with cutlass on his full head and chest.
