The newly certificated Economic Freedom Fighters (EFFL) has failed to signed Tuesday’s 2023 Farmington Declaration on ensuring a non-violence election in Liberia, just days after its leader Emmanuel Gonquoi openly vowed not to rule out waging a violent struggle in Liberia.

It is so far not known why the EFFL did not sign the peace declaration.

“Only the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party of Liberia did not sign and was represented at the program. The Vision of Liberia Transformation Party (VOLT) did not returned a commitment for the declaration to the NEC Political Affairs Section. Hence, the party did not signed,” says a NEC press statement signed by its Deputy Communications Director Prince Dunbar.

On April 4, 2023, 26 registered Political Parties signed the declaration to ensure a violence free 2023 presidential and legislative election in Liberia slated for October 10,2023.

Last weekend, the EFFL’s leader  Gonquoi made what is seen as a brazen threat against the peace just over six months to presidential and legislative election, by refusing to rule out a violent struggle.

“I want to say thank you, to my people in Margibi, the convention is over, the time for us to roll our sleeves and get Nathaniel F. McGill out of the County.  The last time, I packed my car and I saw a few of the pickups come and surrounded me and I laughed at them at RIA and said look at them, they pretend to understand violence but they did to know that I am the master of violence look, in the struggle if it requires that we will kill people, we will kill people for the survival of our country,” said the EFFL leader who refers to himself as “command in chief”.EFFL Leader Gonquoi Threatens Liberia’s Peace: Not Ruling Out Violent Struggle – News Public Trust

Amongst parties who signed the declaration were President George Weah, Standard Bearer of the ruling CDC party, former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai of the main opposition Unity Party Party (UP), and Alexander Cummings of the new Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).
