As Founder of the Nyonblee Cares Foundation, the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence launched, over the weekend, a 14-day STEM Robotic Vacation Program in Gorblee, Grand Bassa County, with a call to the youth community to uphold the values of “Integrity, Respect and Responsibility”.

The STEM program concentrates on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, with 100 high school students enrolled at the Gorblee Youth Center in Wee District, Grand Bassa County.

Senator Lawrence asked the students to set their minds on core subject matters of STEM as the world advances in those fields. She spoke against low self-esteem arising from personal failures.

Using her childhood experience, the Grand Bassa Senator said her high school teacher at Ricks Institute pushed her senior class that failed the West African Examination Council (WACE) Test to look beyond failures. Her teacher’s words have been a source of energy, she told the STEM students.

Speaking on the expected outcome of the vacation program, the NCF Founder assured the students that the STEM Robotic Program was intended to stimulate the career interest of the students and spark them to innovation that helps them to “start thinking outside of the box”.

She committed internet services to the Gorblee Youth Center for digital learning purposes, advising against just Facebook posting and viewing. She encouraged online learning as access to knowledge beyond

Serving as Guest Speaker, Rixck Barse-Giah, who serves the National Oil Company as Vice President for Upstream Operations, asked the participants to compete in their generation, irrespective of their location as rural community dwellers.  “Geniuses have no boundaries”, the NOCAL Executive exclaimed.

He asked the young people to pay attention and take advantage of the hands-on learning opportunities that entailed calculation, innovation, and coding. “You can begin forming your career as the world is now all technology and science”, Rixck concluded.

According to the Nyonblee Cares Foundation, the vacation program would last 14 days and end with a robotic competition among the students.  All participants are expected to be certified, said a press release from the Nyonblee Cares Foundation.
