(Last Updated On: )

Mob violence has become a past time for some in many communities around the country, leading to injuries and sometimes fatalities.

Reports from Liberia’s southeastern Sinoe County say a physically challenged man has allegedly been severely flogged, breaking one of his legs in Boye Town, Welja in Wacaba District.

The man identified as Alex Weayan, who had earlier survived a fight on a farm, was said to have been beaten up by a vigilante group.

The incident reportedly happened on Friday July 19, 2019, when eleven men delegation from the vigilante group went to the victim resident in search of bush meat but did not find any.

After the eleven men delegation had mercilessly beaten the physically challenged man, he decided to go and complain the community watch team at the Sapo National park headquarters.

But the reports said that while on his way, another community watch team member who was part of farm fight identified as Koto Teah, was told by residents of the town that the victim (Weayan) allegedly hurt Teah’s brother. So, Weayan was on his way to report himself to police.

The report added that while on his way, Teah followed him to revenge for his brother, saying that “since carrying our complaint, I am going to kill you and everything just being over.”

Suspect Teah therefore use his cutlass to severely wound him on his head and even broke one of his legs. Thinking the victim had died, his money (amount not known) was taken from his pocket along with his cell phone.

However, after suspect Teah had severely wounded the physically challenged man, he left him by the roadside with blood covering his entire face. The man was later rescued by a passers bye, who heard him crying and took to the Magistrate of that district and was subsequently taken to the clinic for medical treatment.

So far, only  Koto Teah has been arrested, while the rest of the ten have are yet to be arrested.
