Monrovia, Liberia –The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NafAA) has successfully held a day-long media training program under its Open Media House initiative in Monrovia.
The training was organized to provide media practitioners with a better understanding of sustainable fisheries management in Liberia and to strengthen public awareness of developments within the country’s fisheries sector.
Speaking during the training on Wednesday, June 3, 2025, NafAA Director of Communications, Lewis Konoe, said the initiative is aimed at demonstrating the fisheries sector’s contribution to national development while promoting environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
Konoe noted that the Open Media House program seeks to equip journalists with the knowledge and skills necessary to report accurately and effectively on fisheries-related issues.
He emphasized that improved media coverage will help enhance public understanding of the sector and its importance to Liberia’s economy and food security.
According to him, the training will also contribute to improving the quality and accuracy of fisheries reporting, thereby strengthening public trust and encouraging informed public engagement on issues affecting the sector.
Participants welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation to NafAA for creating a platform that fosters collaboration between the media and the fisheries sector.
The Open Media House initiative forms part of NafAA’s broader efforts to promote transparency, public awareness, and stakeholder engagement in the sustainable management of Liberia’s fisheries resources.
