Opposition CPP, Ruling CDC Take Early Leads In Montserrado & Maryland Counties

Early provisional results from the December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial Elections and Referendum has seen the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) trail their rivals in almost all of the eight counties from where the National Elections Commission (NEC) has so far announced first progressive results.

In Montserrado, incumbent Darius Dillon of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), has a total of 44,692 votes constituting 60.8%, while the CDC CDC’S Thomas P Fallah has 26,697 votes representing 36.3%.

CPP consists of the Liberty Party, Unity Party, All Liberian Party and the Alternative National Congress.

The only county in which the CDC has so far well performed is Maryland, where its candidate James Barney has taken a clear early lead, bagging 36.3% of total votes cast so far;  5.1% clear of nearest rival Independent Candidate Dan Morias who has 1178 votes , constituting 31.8%.

The results released so far constitute minute percentages of total votes from polling places from eight counties including Bong, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, and Margibi.

The others are Maryland, Montserrado, Maryland, and Nimba Counties.

The results were announced by NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown Lassana Thursday at a news conference at the commission’s headquarters.

In most of the eight counties where provisional results have come in from, the CPP and independent candidates have established early leads.

CPP’s Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence leads in Grand Bassa County with 8,608 votes (47.5%) against Gbehzongar M. Findley of the CDC who accrued 8,018 votes (44.3%), while in Bong County, Prince K. Moye of the CPP – won 1678 votes (52.6%) against Henry W. Yallah who has 1206 votes (37.8%).

The NEC boss has meanwhile assured Liberians that the “commission will adequately announce the election results of votes cast as expressed by the Liberian people”.

She also said that progressive results of votes tallied would be announced daily at NEC’s conferences at 3:00PM.
